Research summary
Trans-anal endoscopic microsurgery is a challenging procedure using current equipment. There is a lack of triangulation of the instruments once they have been placed in the back passage resulting in 'clashing' of the instruments inside the rectum and difficulties with adequate tissue handling and manipulation. This study involves the use of a novel port and robotic arm designed to improve the movement of instruments within the port and make positioning of the port and visualization of the lesion easier. This is the start of a larger project with the aim of a fully robotic system in the future.
