Research summary
This Study is a multi-site international study to determine the utility of video-based counselling followed by point-of-care rapid HIV testing in screening adults attending secondary care settings. UK national guidance (www.bhiva.org/HIVTesting2008.aspx) stresses the importance of unselected screening of general medical admissions and others in areas of moderate and high HIV prevalence, but the best methodologies to achieve this in different populations and differing settings need exploration.
The study will explore the overall utility, feasibility and acceptability of video-based counselling in European Emergency/Admissions Departments, and also will compare a standard video (i.e. no choice of video counsellor) versus an option of gender and ethnicity in video counsellor.
All adult patients aged 18 years and above who attend the Emergency/Admissions Department will be offered the opportunity to join the study. There will be no restriction on the number of subjects.REC name
