Benefits

Last updated on 23 Oct 2024

At the HRA, we are pleased to offer a range of benefits to our colleagues to support with their wellbeing and work-life balance. This includes:

Flexible working

We are flexible in where you base yourself to do your work, recognising the need to balance work around life. All colleagues have the option to be completely home-based, or you are welcome to work in any of our offices in Bristol, London, Manchester, Newcastle or Nottingham. Or, you can do a mixture of both.

We also offer flexible working timings within our core working hours of 7.30am-6.30pm, including compressed hours.

Enhanced reproductive health policies

We are proud to offer an inclusive suite of policies, designed to support the diverse reproductive health needs of everyone working at the HRA.

It covers the entire life cycle of a person’s reproductive journey in their working years – menstrual health, fertility, pregnancy and baby loss, breastfeeding and menopause.

The HRA is the first arms-length body to introduce a pregnancy and baby loss policy, and we recognise the effect of this on both partners, not just the birthing person.

Buying and selling annual leave

All HRA staff have a minimum of 27 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) in line with the NHS policy, which increases on your five and ten year anniversary.

In addition to this, every six months, we have a period during which colleagues have the option to buy extra days or be paid instead of taking days you don’t wish to use.

Travel support

We offer our employees access to a car lease scheme, an interest-free season ticket loan to support with travel by public transport, and access to the Cycle to Work Scheme.

Your personal development

All staff can request two days (up to 15 hours) paid time off each year to undertake work or training to support personal development, and we offer opportunities to apply for interest-free study loans for more extended learning such as university courses and post graduate or master's qualifications.

In addition to this, we offer up to 2 days volunteering leave per year.

A supportive, inclusive environment

With staff based across the country and many working from home, we want to foster a supportive and inclusive environment and enable positive connections with colleagues outside of the remit of your role.

We are also committed to being a place where disabled people feel valued, supported, and able to progress. We are proud that this has been recognised through the awarding of Disability Confident Leader status. Find out more about how we support people with disabilities, both in the workplace and through the recruitment process.

We have many friendly communities designed for discussion and peer support. These include our equality diversity and inclusion staff network groups, a book club and camera club, and our Staff Voices group, who represent the voice of our colleagues.

We also have specially trained Mental Health First aiders who are available to provide confidential support and signpost staff to specialist services.

Our Respect at the HRA video below summarises the high standards we set ourselves for how we treat each other so that everyone involved in our work feels included, respected, and valued for who they are and what they bring to the organisation.

In addition to the above, as an NHS employee, you can access the full suite of benefits available to NHS staff.

This includes:
  • brilliant discounts across hundreds of retailers nationwide through Health Service Discounts, the Blue Light card, and much more
  • pay progression under Agenda for Change
  • access to the NHS pension scheme. Read more about the scheme.
