We want to see public involvement fully integrated into all UK health and social care research. We’re excited to be working with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to bring together key players from across the research sector to collaborate in this important area.
We’ve joined forces with other funders and regulators to look at ways to improve public involvement. This includes the Department of Health and Social Care, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, Chief Scientist Office NHS Research Scotland, Health and Social Care Northern Ireland and Health and Care Research Wales. We’re also working with the Academy of Medical Sciences, Universities UK, the Medical Research Council, Wellcome, the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI), Association of Medical Research Charities and UK Research and Innovation and the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement.
This group is working together to help address key findings from our Public Involvement in a Pandemic report. The report highlighted four gaps to integrating public involvement into health and social research:
- communications
- information
- collaboration
- leadership
Together we hope to work together to make a difference! The next meeting of the group takes place on Wednesday 8 December.
