Today (15 May) marks the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Week 2023. Mental health is a topic close to our heart at the HRA and one we actively engage with all year round.
To keep us growing in this area, the HRA is proud to have signed up to the Mindful Employer Charter, to recognise and develop our work around mental health.
The Mindful Employer Charter is for workplaces which are positive about mental health, and asks organisations to:
- provide non-judgemental and proactive support to staff with experience of mental ill-health
- not make assumptions about a person with a mental health condition and their ability to work
- be positive and enabling toward all employees and applicants with a mental health condition
- support line managers in managing mental health in the workplace
- ensure we are fair in the recruitment of new staff
- make it clear that people who have experience of mental ill-health will not be discriminated against
Michele Ekins, Head of People at the HRAI’m incredibly proud and excited that we’ve signed up to the Mindful Employer Charter!
This reflects the progress we’ve made so far in supporting our staff’s mental health and wellbeing – and also our ambition to do more! We know that supporting staff’s wellbeing at work helps people to feel at their best and in turn perform at their best, to help us provide an excellent service to our customers.
The HRA is already doing work in all of these areas, and we will continue to review and develop our ambitions with support from Staff Voices (our staff forum), our staff-led interest group for mental health, and our Mental Health First Aiders.
