We have improved the information we provide on our website for student researchers and those who support them.
As part of this work, we have launched three bite-size modules aimed at students and their academic supervisors.
The new, short modules are freely available and focus on the following topics:
- Sponsors’ and supervisors’ role in educational research
- Applying for HRA and HCRW Approval
- Setting up research sites in England and Wales.
These modules take around five to 10 minutes to complete and can be accessed directly on our student research webpage.
Student research should be approached in the same way as other studies taking place in the NHS, but our webpage and modules aim to present clear information for those who may be new to research.

We hope that supervisors will encourage their students to carry out our free eLearning and that students find the bitesize modules and the information on our student research webpage helpful.
Supervisors can further support their students by creating a ‘research culture’ at their educational institutions. This can involve promoting students’ awareness of health and social care research, research ethics and public involvement, as well as enabling them to develop skills in research methods.”
