Help build a health service fit for the future

Last updated on 21 Oct 2024

Today, the Department of Health and Social Care launched Change NHS – a nationwide campaign asking for members of the public, patients, carers and NHS staff to help develop a 10 Year Health Plan.

The campaign was launched by Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, in the video below.

The aim of the campaign is to gather feedback from people across the country and use your views, experiences and ideas to make real change.

We are encouraging everyone to take part and share your feedback on the new change.nhs.uk website.

There are separate questionnaires for members of the public, NHS staff and organisations to respond to.

This is an opportunity to have your say and share any ideas you have for changes that could benefit everyone.

If you’ve got an idea, no matter how big or small, please share it.

Reflecting on the launch of the campaign, Matt Westmore, Chief Executive at the Health Research Authority, said:

New HRA Chief Executive Professor Matt Westmore

The NHS is a huge part of all of our lives. It’s likely that you, or a loved one are currently being supported by the NHS in some way.

Those important experiences mean we all have an equal voice when it comes to making suggestions for change.

This is a fantastic opportunity to share your experience of receiving care from the NHS – good or bad – and help shape the next 10 years of the health and social care service.

This is also an opportunity to ensure that research is prioritised as part of the 10 Year Health Plan. Lord Darzi’s independent review of the NHS made it clear that research has a key role to play in developing a high-quality health service that is sustainable in the future. We will continue to fly the flag for research.

One of the key things identified by Lord Darzi and Wes Streeting is the need for the NHS to transition from ‘analogue to digital'. The HRA is already testament to this direction of travel, as a largely digital organisation, and our work to update the systems to plan, approve, setup, manage and complete UK research will further support the NHS to transform their research processes digitally too.

We will be providing an organisational response in the coming weeks and will continue to play our part in driving change and improvements in the NHS.

Take part

To take part all your need to do is register on the change.nhs.uk website and start completing one of the questionnaires.

You can take part in as many of these questionnaires as you like and you will also be able to leave comments on other people’s suggestions in the ‘your ideas for change’ section.
